We challenged them to give with no obvious ROI. The ROI found them.

How an act of pure generosity toward competitors’ staff became a self-funding culture engine.

The challenge

We challenged one organization to contribute to their community with no obvious return on investment — generosity for its own sake.

What they did

The executive team created gift bags — water bottles, goodies and hand-written cards — and delivered them to the maintenance staff of their competitors, to thank them for their hard work. It was completely sincere, and the recipients were blown away.

The spark

The executives came back from their ‘community field trip’ on fire. They told coworkers about the experience, and soon everyone wanted in. Demand grew so fast the company had to create an entire budget for community giving.

The ROI that found them

The money was easy to find — it came straight out of reduced employee turnover, fewer sick days, and fewer no-call/no-shows. Generosity with no expected return paid for itself, many times over.

“Give with no expectation of return — and the return finds you anyway.”

Community impact from a Be Legendary engagement
Why it worked

We help you rediscover what you already have.

Our Discovery and Engagement work doesn’t hand you someone else’s playbook. We find the strength, spirit or purpose already alive in your organization — then help you build on it until it changes everything.

  • Appreciative, not deficit — we grow what’s working instead of chasing what isn’t.
  • Purpose into action — insight becomes daily behavior, not a poster.
  • Impact that reaches the community — the best purpose gives back.

What’s your team’s ‘one thing’?

Let’s find the strength or purpose your organization already has — and build something legendary on it.
