What it builds

One race that needs all of them at once

Success isn’t about being the fastest or the smartest — it’s about combining what the whole team brings. Every clue pulls on a different strength, so the team that communicates and collaborates beats the team that just runs.

How it works

Score as many points as you can

01

Grab a backpack

Each participant takes a backpack at random. Inside: water, a map, the list of clues, scratch paper, a pen — and one special tool. Every team starts with a different, random set of gear.

02

Solve the clues

Some clues are harder and worth more points; some need a specific tool to crack. A digital camera captures proof of the ones you solve — and a few just for fun.

03

Play the variables

Points aren’t only for clues. Finish early, travel a long way — or a deliberately short one — the scoring variables are nearly limitless and tuned to your group.

The twist

You don’t steal a tool. You recruit a teammate.

Spot another team and you’re allowed to take one of their tools — but they can take one of yours in return. Since some clues need a GPS unit or binoculars, the temptation is real.

Here’s the catch: the tool is attached to the person holding it. So you’re not grabbing gear — you’re choosing a person to bring onto your team, betting that their tools and skills are exactly what your next clue needs.

Where it runs

City streets or open wilderness

We recommend

Urban

Most participants already know how a city works — and it’s packed with fantastic built-in clues to design around. The familiar setting lets the teamwork, not the terrain, take center stage.

Also available

Wilderness

For groups that want the adventure-race edge, we run the same hunt across trails and open country — navigation and endurance become part of the challenge.

The hunt that got engineers talking.

When Cook Medical brought its engineers together from around the world for the first time, we customized The Ultimate Hunt for St. Louis — and over three hours, people who’d only ever emailed finally met, swapped teams, and learned the city together.

  • Fully customized to your city, clues and goals.
  • Teams reshuffle by design — people meet far more of the room.
  • Optional facilitated debrief ties the race back to how you work.

The Ultimate Hunt FAQs

What is The Ultimate Hunt? +

A team building activity that’s part scavenger hunt, part adventure race and part learning lab. Small teams use random tool-filled backpacks to solve clues for points — with a twist: to take another team’s tool, you have to recruit the teammate holding it.

How long does it take, and how big can the group be? +

Typically two to four hours, for any group size split into small teams. We’ve run it for everything from a single department to a global engineering organization meeting for the first time.

Does it run in a city or the wilderness? +

Both. We recommend urban settings because the city provides rich, familiar clues to design around, but we also run a wilderness version for groups that want an adventure-race edge.

What does it build? +

Problem solving, critical thinking, communication and collaboration — the team that combines everyone’s strengths beats the team that just runs. An optional facilitated debrief ties the race back to how you work.

Run The Ultimate Hunt in your city.

Tell us where you’re meeting and what you want the team to walk away with. We’ll design the clues, the tools and the twist around your group.
