The charity bike build activity that brings the whole room to its feet.
Building a Dream is our flagship charity bike build team building event, where your team races the clock to build real, road-ready bikes from the frame up, then the children who receive them ride into the room. It’s the moment your people remember for years. It’s one of our signature charity & CSR team building events.

Building a Dream is our flagship charity bike build team building event: your team races the clock to build real, road-ready bikes from the frame up, then the children who receive them ride into the room. It energizes any size group, reinforces working as one team, and gives back — we've built 50,000+ bikes since 2003, at events up to 5,000 people. A Legendary Team Building bike build costs $100 to $175 per person, including the donated bikes and bringing the children onsite to receive them.

Building a Dream, in a nutshell.
Building a Dream is a hands-on challenge with a heart. As bike team building goes, this bicycle team building activity puts a real give-back at its center: teams earn parts, solve problems and assemble complete, road-ready bikes — and just when they think the activity is over, the kids arrive to receive them.
Collaboration under pressure
Teams self-organize, divide work and problem-solve against the clock.
A shared peak moment
The reveal is the emotional high everyone retells back at the office.
Purpose people feel
Your team built something real for a child — pride that carries back to work.

Three moves from bag-of-parts to unforgettable.
Frame the day, then team up
Your people start in theater seating for a short, customizable opener that connects the build to your message, then split into teams of five and compete in quick challenges to earn their bike’s components.
Build a real bike
Teams move to the tables and assemble a complete, road-ready bike from the frame up, following a clear kit. Our crew safety-checks every finished bike. No experience needed.
The reveal & the human tunnel
The children who will receive the bikes arrive. Your team forms a human tunnel, and the kids ride in through it on the bikes your people just built. The room goes from focused to unforgettable in seconds — then everyone returns to their seats for the wrap-up.
It looks like a bike build. It debriefs like leadership training.
The build is the story; the wrap-up is where it turns into behavior. Facilitators tie the experience to the themes your team is working on — here are four we return to most.
Service
Every team called their bike race-ready. Then they saw the child’s face, picked their tools back up, and found the extra 3–5% that makes all the difference.
Continual improvement
One turn of the wrench isn’t sexy. Ten turns is a safe bike. Small, repeated effort is what actually ships — on a bike and at work.
Leadership
A leader’s smallest “turn of the wrench” lands on the people around them — sometimes small, sometimes large, always an impact. Are we choosing those actions carefully?
Dreams
When did “be practical” replace “what do you dream about?” What are your dreams now — and whose are you helping come true?
Your team builds something real — for a child who needs it.
Every bike is donated to a child in your community, often onsite. For a child who would never own one, a bike is freedom, independence and responsibility. Each one comes with a helmet, lock and backpack — and your team doesn’t just bond, they change a kid’s day in the same afternoon.
And the impact may outlast the day: a 2015 study found that low-income urban students who walked or biked more than half a mile to school had 65% lower odds of being overweight or obese than students who did not actively commute.DeWeese, R. S., & Ohri-Vachaspati, P. (2015). “The Role of Distance in Examining the Association Between Active Commuting to School and Students’ Weight Status.” Journal of Physical Activity and Health, 12(9), 1280–1288. doi:10.1123/jpah.2014-0100. Observational, cross-sectional study — shows association, not causation.

Building a Dream FAQs
What is a bike build team building activity? +
A bike build is a hands-on team building activity where groups assemble real, road-ready bikes that are then donated to children in need. Our version, Building a Dream, ends with the children arriving onsite to receive the bikes.
How many people can do Building a Dream? +
From 5 to 5,000, including conference general sessions. There is no maximum — it is our most-requested large-group activity and scales cleanly.
Do participants need any technical skill? +
None. Every bike comes with a clear kit and our team safety-checks each finished bike. Anyone can take part.
How long does it take? +
About two hours is typical. We run Building a Dream anywhere from 60 to 180 minutes, and it can anchor a multi-day conference theme. We tailor the length to your agenda — a fast 60-minute build is pure hands-on assembly, while a longer session adds framing and debrief.
What does each child receive? +
Each child receives a complete, road-ready bike your team built, plus a helmet, lock and backpack. At every Building a Dream event, the children come onsite to receive their bikes in person.
Can Building a Dream be a conference theme? +
Yes. It scales to a conference general session for up to 5,000 people and can anchor a multi-day event theme, with the opener and debrief tied to your meeting’s message.
Is this a charity bike build? +
Yes. Building a Dream is a charity bike build. Every bike your team assembles is donated to a child in need, so it doubles as a build a bike for charity event and a high-energy team building challenge.
How does a charity bike build team building event work? +
A bike build team building event runs in three moves. Teams earn parts in quick challenges, follow a clear kit for the team building bike assembly, then meet the children who ride away on the finished bikes. No technical skill is needed.
What’s included? +
Everything to run it end to end: a lead facilitator and event crew, all build materials and kits, the charitable donation of what your team builds, plus full setup and teardown. You bring the room and your people; we bring the rest.
How much does it cost? +
A Legendary Team Building charity bike build costs $100 to $175 per person. The per-participant price includes the facilitator and event crew, every bike kit and material, setup and teardown, the donated bikes your team builds, and bringing the children onsite to receive them. Larger groups land toward the lower end of the range. Tell us your group size and city and we’ll send a tailored proposal, usually within a business day.
What’s the difference between a charity build where the kids come onsite and one where the items are dropped off? +
When the recipients come onsite, your team meets the kids who will ride the bikes or use the kits (at Housewarming, the shelter dogs who will sleep in the beds). That moment is what turns a donation into team building: it connects the work to a real outcome, and it gives the debrief its message. Legendary Team Building brings the recipients onsite at every give-back build. It adds cost and coordination, and it’s the part of the day people remember. A drop-off model costs less, but it works more like a volunteer shift or a giveaway than a shared experience.
