The Power of (re)CREATion

Question:
What world-changing product could you build with just junk and the creative genius of a small group?

Answer:
Prepare to be amazed!

An activity that shows the value of re-creation and recreation. We combine fun and creativity in small groups and let them experience their incredible power of innovation.

After an introduction and framing of content, participants are broken in to teams of 6 and are given a plastic bag of trash.

Groups are given 45 minutes to be as creative as possible and assemble a product(s) from the trash. Also, from the same materials, they must assemble a soccer ball that will be tested for quality with teams vying to build the best soccer ball from trash.

The participants learn that the trash is what is available to children in a third world country and these children actually build items, including soccer balls, out of this trash.

The participants learn that the trash is what is available to children in a third world country and these children actually build items, including soccer balls, out of this trash.

Each team then learns about and is given an ‘Indestructaball’, which was invented and funded, in part, by the musician Sting.

A single soccerball can change a community, allowing hundreds of community members to engage and reconnect with one another.

While we wrap up the event, the teams pass around and decorate the balls, putting their personal fingerprint on the very balls that will be given to groups of children for recreation in a third world country.

go to school and learnFinally, they will learn that each one of them is making a very real difference because each one of them represents 5 square feet of a new soccer field that will be funded by our non-profit partner, who will also distribute the soccer balls.

These fields are put next to schools because it makes young people want to go to school and learn!
