Awareness or Solution, Which Is Better?

There are a lot of people who have already brought awareness to the cause that they have just discovered. Last time, I encountered a conversation with a person that called me up and declared that the main purpose why he was forming a group is for awareness purposes. When I shared this story to a friend, she also said that it’s getting absurd how people are trying to bring awareness to other individuals who are already aware about the things that are happening around us or to the problems that are uprooted in our society. The truth is not all about bringing awareness but gaining understanding from your fellowmen, bringing in the funds which plays a big part in the process and of course, just making an alibi to become an underdog instead of getting associated with former organized groups.

If you have observed, there are numerous organized support groups for various types of each diseases, calamities, viruses or disabilities. This support groups are not only focused with the human welfare but also for the whole living entities in the world like animals, trees, the earth’s present situation and a bunch of lineup that needs attention with. It is so great to know that people are becoming aware and take every issue of humankind seriously like getting the issue viral in different methods. It is important that people know the difficulties that are being encountered by their fellowmen in the present time.

The negative thing comes out when everyone wants to save the whole world from problems and requires people to bring awareness to their cause. When all you want is to get in charge in solving the problem while the others will just listen and donate money to their newly organized group. Why not just join secured support groups like AHA or American Heart Association and the like, compared to starting on your own from nothing?

They say, “Misery loves company” and yes, people wants to be heard with the awareness that their bring to their cause. It does not mean that newly built support groups are not reliable but can we just trust the old, big groups that has been doing their thing for decades already than making it on our own. It will become a possibility that the problem should get fixed but instead, it won’t be because the attention is already divided to different small groups which we can just prefer to focus on the large group.

It is good to bring awareness but it is much better if we focus our attention to those support groups that has been doing this for a long time and offer our services to them rather than spending too much energy in forming new ones. Sometimes, people get this notion that when they bring awareness to other people – who are already aware, they become cocky with the idea that they had just formed out a new support group as if it’s the first time. Is it about helping needy people or do you just need the attention that you get when you help people? Which is which? Are you sure that you are truly aware with the problems of this world?

I am not becoming a hypocrite here but let us acknowledge the truth that we are not in need of NEW support groups since there are already a bunch out there that we can trust and is trusted for doing their jobs so well. So, think about it? Awareness or solution? Which do you prefer?

DeVry Builds 108 Bicycles and 108 Dreams

,

What is a dream? The word gets tossed around in our day to day lives eluding to hopes and desires.  By its very definition, a dream is unreal, intangible, and breeches the realm of possibility.  It is a world of our creation, and yet on December 9, 2011, 620 participants of DeVry Inc. took a dream and turned it into a reality.

Lead by James Carter, Founder of Be Legendary, this group of extraordinary individuals uncovered the very essence of their legendary lives.  What we do and how we do it are motivated by the underlining belief of why.

Everything we do can be traced back to this basic question. And so on this not so ordinary Friday morning, each individual was challenged to think of and talk about the question of why.

With a seemingly ambiguous three word question, participants asked one another, “Who are you?” The answers were profound as people not only discovered the values of others, but also values of themselves.

“Imagine a golf green surrounded by water,” said James Carter.  “What are our initial thoughts?”

Voices from the crowded shouted, “Don’t hit the ball in the water!”

“Exactly!”, smiled James. “But what is it we really want?”

That question weaved through the conversation of the entire morning.  What is it you really want? Focusing in on the answer to that question is the most powerful tool any company, team, or individual can hold.

And so these 620 individuals focused on their next challenge –  build a product.  They broke off into teams, twisted screwdrivers, rotated wrenches, and began to see parts and pieces come together to create something magnificent, a bicycle.

Building 108 bicycles is quite impressive, but who was going to ride these newly assembled creations?  Participants turned to the back of the room where 108 children from Tangelo Park Elementary cheered and chanted as they piled through the doors of ballroom.

Theses children were in the accelerated reading program and had earned, what would be for some of them, their first bicycle!

And what was probably the most heartfelt part of the day was the stories that came from it.  A participant from DeVry shared how she didn’t have any children, how the smile on that child’s face lit up her world, and how when the children were getting ready to leave she got the biggest hug of appreciation.

A tear rolled down her face, as she shared her story, a story that will stay with her forever.

We at Be Legendary, never tire from seeing smiling faces, cheering crowds, and the transformation of a dream come true.

We were particularly excited about this event as we welcomed Kytka Hilmar-Jezek and her three remarkable children Zack, Zanna, and Zynnia to our legendary staff!

Focusing in on recreating a legendary world, the participants of  DeVry Inc. are living proof, that believing in dreams can create a working, living, and legendary reality.

Are Your Investments Worthwhile

How many times have we uttered the phrase, “That was a waste of time.”   As good as our intentions may be, the outcome clearly did not pan out the way we wished it to.

Hours upon hours of time invested into something, and the result goes unnoticed.  Perhaps it’s trying to figure out how to use a new piece of seemingly cryptic technology. Maybe it’s an attempt at learning a new language.  It could be time spent exercising, consoling others, studying, reading, helping, conversing, or just showing some support, and yet nobody really seems to notice.

We tend to measure our investments based off the worth other people see in them.  But any experience you engage in runs deeper than the perception others create.

Walt Disney World is a wonderful example of this.  Described as a magical place, Disney has an atmosphere of sheer wonder and awe.  How did Disney come to be what it is?  Investments.  Many of which go unknown, but no doubt play a pivotal roll into creating this living fantasy.

There is an incredulous attention to detail at Disney.

Sign posts are repainted every night after closing so as not to appear worn or chipped.

Pictures and murals contain such detailed ambiguity that each time you look at one you’re bound to find something new.

Carousels are painted with gold paint.  No, not gold-colored paint, but 23-karat gold-leafed paint.

But why invest in things that 95% of the guests won’t even notice?  I seriously doubt kids can tell the difference between gold-leaf and gold colored paint.

It is Disney’s commitment to their guests, letting them know that they go all out in everything they do.  And even if the guests don’t notice the employees certainly do.  Passion is contagious and so the commitment to excellence certainly catches on.

And so a good amount of the efforts that contribute to Disney’s greatness go unnoticed.  But unnoticed does not mean unworthy.  All those hidden details contribute to Disney’s unmatched reputation.

The same idea can be applied to each and every one of us.  We may not see direct results and our actions may go unnoticed, but like the freshly painted signs and ambiguous illustrations of Disney World, everything culminates into the essence of the whole.

Every action you take shapes who you are.  And so even if you have spent countless hours investing your time without being recognized for it, its okay, it is all part of the fantastical character of you.  And that is what get’s noticed.

Some people would view a golden painted carousel as idiotic and a waste of money. But those horses and chariots were painted gold because of the belief of Disney’s passion for excellence and commitment to it’s guests.  To Disney, their guest are gold, they are the reason for it’s existence.

If everything you do creates the essence of who you are, then is there really any time wasted?  Unmeasurable and unnoticed does not mean misused.

So what are your gold painted carousels?  Do you think your actions develop character? What is something you thought to be a waste of time? Was it?
